Chuck Bell

Chuck grew up in Annapolis, MD, spending his high school and college summers working at area yacht yards and sail lofts. He worked under skilled craftsmen, earning his stripes commissioning new yachts and developing a solid foundation in yacht systems, design, maintenance, and rigging. He also gained valuable experience in sailmaking for both cruising and racing vessels. Through these early experiences, he developed an equal passion and appreciation for power and sail.

After college Chuck joined IBM and embarked on a satisfying career in sales, marketing, and business development. He went on to hold leadership roles in government contracting, directing growth initiatives involving multimillion-dollar technology services contracts in support of modernizing legacy government systems. Throughout his career, he developed a discipline for understanding client requirements and delivering solutions on budget and on schedule. More than anything, he earned a reputation for building trusted, long-term client relationships — a value he brings directly to yacht sales at SYS.

On the water, Chuck has accumulated offshore sailing hours, enjoyed several bareboat charters in the Caribbean, and led numerous yacht deliveries up and down the New England and Mid-Atlantic coasts. He developed a fascination with the Down East boats of Maine, and over a five-year period purchased two custom Maine-built Down Easters that he transported to Maryland and tackled moderate restoration projects. A personal highlight: meeting legendary Maine builder Jarvis Newman, who visited a completed restoration and signaled his approval of the work.

A lifelong boater and Marylander, Chuck graduated from St. Mary's High School in Annapolis and went on to earn his degree from Washington College in Chestertown. He was heavily involved in competitive sailboat racing for years while living in Annapolis. He and his wife Sally now reside on Kent Island, where they are active boaters and supporters of fishery conservation efforts focused on the Bay and Atlantic coast. Chuck is a past member of the Eastport Yacht Club and currently serves on the Board of the Kent Island Yacht Club as Fleet Captain, managing the club's marina, its finances and waterfront assets.

Chuck operates from the Maryland SYS location and is also licensed in Florida. He is ambitious about expanding SYS’s presence and driving growth throughout the Mid-Atlantic. He is knowledgeable across a wide range of power and sail cruising brands and applies his technology background to diligently research vessel history, systems, strengths and weaknesses. His approach centers on understanding each client's requirements, preferences, and intended use — then identifying the vessel that checks (nearly) every box. Whether you are selling your vessel or searching for a Great Loop cruiser, a modern fishing machine, or a performance sailing yacht, Chuck is committed to your vision and welcomes an initial conversation.
