Sea Ray is the largest manufacturer of pleasure boats in the world. They currently have over 40 models, ranging in size from 19 to 65 feet. Sea Ray's versatile lines fall into four main categories: Sport Boats, Sport Cruisers, Sport Yachts and Yachts. Whether you are looking a day cruiser, a weekend getaway boat, or a larger, more luxurious vessel for extended cruising, no other boat manufacturer offers such variety to meet your boating needs.
Because of their demand, there are always a large selection of used Sea Rays on the market. Knowing which model Sea Ray is right for you can be difficult. We asked one of our Sea Ray specialists and licensed yacht brokers, Steve Stevens, more about the brand and the most important things to consider when buying a used Sea Ray.
This is a common question asked from boaters interested in buying a Sea Ray. Sea Ray offers the greatest number of options and styles, from Sedan Bridges to Express Cruisers to Motor Yachts. The most popular sizes range from 40 to 65 feet and offer a wide range of amenities to choose from to fit your style of boating.
As a broker who is very knowledgeable about Sea Rays, I am frequently asked by boaters which model will be right for them. I think the most important thing to consider is the primary purpose for the boat. Is it for day trips to a nearby anchorage, for weekend getaways, or do they plan to do some traveling where they will be living aboard for a while? And also, who will be enjoying the boat? Will they mainly be alone, with a partner, or do they need space to accommodate their family and friends? These are important questions in determining which models will best meet their needs.

Sea Ray has been manufacturing boats from 18 to 65 feet over the last 20 years. They continue to develop brand loyalty because of their versatility and reputation for reliability. What makes them a unique manufacturer is that they have a boat type for all activities and preferences. Across all models, Sea Rays have definitive exterior lines that make them unmistakable on the water. They also feature beautiful, spacious interiors and have a number of engine packages to meet your cruising needs.
The Sport Boat line offers bow riders and deck boats, both in outboard versions and inboard/outboard designs. The Sundancer line offers mid-size and larger yachts, which not only look great, but offer spacious cockpits. The Aft Cabin yachts offer one of the most spacious cabin and salon layouts in the industry. While the Sedan Bridges offer huge bridges as well as great salon and aft deck features.
Many Sea Ray models fit into the Express Cruiser category of boats. Express Cruisers offer the option of upper cockpit space, plus a faster hull design which gives families the option of cruising, but getting to their destination quicker. This style boat is very desirable for boating in the intracoastal waterways of Florida and to nearby islands. Specifically, the Sport Cruisers or Express style Sundancers offer the option of performance and easy maneuverability.
For those looking for more overnight cruising options, buying a Sedan Bridge or Aft Cabin will provide the most livability and space. They also have large galley areas for those who wish to prepare meals aboard.
When buying a used Sea Ray or any pre-owned boat, it is important to get an engine and hull survey to make sure the boat is in good operating condition. These are imperative for not only good peace of mind, but to make sure you are buying the best boat for the money. Buyers should also always ask for the vessel's maintenance records if available.
This is one example of why it's important to choose a reputable yacht brokerage company when buying a boat, as your broker will advise on the best surveyor in your area as well as make sure all survey and sea trial issues are handled professionally. My goal is to protect my clients' interests at all times and to make sure the buying process moves forward as smoothly as possible.
Most owners keep their Sea Rays in good condition both in appearance and maintenance, which make them excellent boats for resale. I have found, in my 18 years of selling boats, that the Sundancers are the most popular Sea Rays for resale for first time Sea Ray buyers. After a year or two of Sundancer ownership, many people move to their Sedan Bridges for the visibility on the bridge when boating, plus the large salon and sliding door access to below areas.
Overall, because of their tremendous following, you can have confidence that the brand will always be in demand.Contact Steve
