From the comfortable bow seating to her well planned cockpit, the Monterey 298 SS is one very spacious boat. In fact, she’s one of the largest bowriders ever produced by a major U.S. manufacturer. Built on a deep-V hull with a wide 9-foot, 6-inch beam, the focal point of the 298 is her large cockpit with its aft bench seat that folds down to increase the size of the existing sun pad. A contoured lounge is opposite the helm, abutting a small console with wet bar and sink, and the doublewide helm seat has a flip-up bolster for standup driving. An unusual feature of the 298 SS is the double berth concealed within the portside console. An enclosed head is in the opposite console, and both of these compartments are fitted with an opening port for ventilation. There’s plenty of storage under the back-to-back helm seats, and the sun pad lifts up to reveal the engine compartment. Standard features include an extended swim platform, docking lights, pull-up cleats, transom shower, fender storage, and VacuFlush toilet. An excellent open water performer, twin 280hp Volvo gas sterndrives cruise in the low 30s and reach a top speed of 45 knots.
Vessel entry is to port via the swim platform. Accommodations are ample throughout the cockpit and bow seating area with, fold down transom sunpad, wet bar, helm chair folds into a sunpad, cockpit fridge, ample storage throughout, and snap-in carpeting throughout. Cabin entry is to port. The cabin is well appointed with a full berth, microwave and ample storage. The head is to starboard.
